Grays Sponsored Player Rohan Toole makes the 2012 Squash Junior World Cup Australian Under 19 team.
Fifteen year old Canowindra High student Rohan Toole will wear the green and gold later this year, after selectors announced the 2012 Squash Junior World Cup Australian Under 19 team.
Although Rohan has been the country’s top ranked boys squash player in his age group for several years and has competed internationally before, his supporters say the national team selection is a significant step up for the young squash product.
Rohan gives his competitors several years in age – even more obvious when you realise he’s the only player in the team who will still be eligible for selection for the next World Cup event, a few years away.
He’s also the only member of the Australian squad without a regular coach and often trains on his own.
The announcement came last week, and is the result of a number of different selection criteria, including state and national individual events, professional events that gave players a world men`s ranking, plus a number of other fitness and skills benchmarks.
Rohan was already a member of the Talent Squad from which the Australian side would be selected, however, it was expected his younger age could hinder his chances.
Wrong.
Rohan and his three team members – from Brisbane, Darwin and a non travelling reserve from Perth – will represent Australia at the World Cup beginning on July 7.
Originally the event for this year was set down for Cairo but because of the unrest in the Egyptian capital was changed to Doha, capital of Qatar, in the Persian Gulf.
Former world champion Rodney Eyles – who has already advised Rohan on his training regime this year - is the coach.
He’s set up a very solid training program for each player.
Rohan has played in weekly competitions in the past 12 months in Cowra, Parkes and Blayney.
We at Inform wish Rohan the very best of luck this year at the World Cup.
