DOUBLES RULES:
ALL PLAYERS MUST WEAR EYE PROTECTION ON THE COURT AT ALL TIMES DURING PLAY AS WELL AS DURING THE WARM UP.
Before a match commences (& before warm up would be a good idea) each team must decide their order of returning the serves & let the marker & referee know. For example Team 1 Jack & Jill are playing against Team 2 Burt & Ernie. Jack from Team 1 decides that he will return serve from the right hand side (server is serving from the left box) Jill is returning the serve on the left hand side (server serving from the right box) Burt from Team 2 decides he is going to return serve on the left hand side (server serving from the right box) & Ernie is returning from the right hand side (server serving from the left box). This order is to remain for the duration of the timed game.
It would also be a good idea to let the first named person on the score sheet for each team serve first for their team as it would help the scorer remember whose turn it would be to serve after each Сhand outТ
For example
Team 1
Jack & Jill
Team 2
Burt and Ernie
Say Team 1 wins the toss & serves first. Jack would serve & continue to serve until a Уhand outФ occurs. Team 2 player Burt to serve next & keeps serving until they loose a rally for another Сhand outТ. The serve would be back to Team 1 but Jill would serve this time & continue to serve each rally until a hand out occurs. Team 2 to serve again but this time Ernie would serve. This order continues for the duration of the timed game. Note to marker. Keep your pen on the left or right side of the personТs name to remember what box they served from.
During the course of a rally team mates do not have to take it in turns to hit the ball. Meaning if Jack serves & Burt returns it, does not necessarily mean that Jill would have to hit the ball next Jack may be in a better position to hit the ball next. The only thing you have to remember is Team 1 serves Team 2 returns Team 1 to hit the next ball Team 2 to hit the next ball etc.
REFEREEING:
If a player playing the ball stops & asks for a let because they feel their opponent is too close & may get hit with their racket or with the ball or the other opponent may get hit with the ball when the ball in going to the front or side wall. The guideline for the referee to determine is; if either opponent made a reasonable effort to avoid interference from being hit with the racket or ball then a Let shall be given. If however the referee feels that either of the opponents did not make any attempt to make a reasonable effort to avoid interference from being hit with the racket or ball & a winning shot could have been made then a Stroke may be awarded. If however the referee deems that the player could not have made a good return at all on the shot then No Let will be awarded.
A Let is not allowed if it is your own team member that is causing you interference. Same rule applies if you play the ball & it hits your team member Ц you loose the point. But if the ball you play hits your opponent then a Let or Stroke can be given depending on if the balle would have made it to the front wall either directly or on the side wall.
Please remember that a Let is more than often the correct ruling on most calls. It is hard to give a stroke for a winning shot as one opponent may be near you & not get to your shot but the other opponent may have a chance of getting to it.
